Well, why CrossFit?
Crossfit is always a challenge, the coaches are fantastic (they never allow me to do a movement incorrectly and they motivate me to go beyond my limits) and the community is welcoming and super fun!
What type of training were you doing before CrossFit?
I mostly played Ultimate Frisbee, but I also ran and played some soccer and football.. I had a personal trainer for about a year before I moved back to Milwaukee, and that helped me get into more strength workouts.
And your favorite type of workout?
I like the ones that incorporate a balance of running and strength. I also really like the Hero WODS because they’re an extra challenge.
What are you most proud of, personally, at the box?
I went up to Minneapolis recently to visit some friends that I hadn’t seen in months. They all told me that I looked “super-buff”. I’m pretty proud of that. But I’m most proud of the fact that I feel a lot stronger. I can do a TON that I couldn’t do last November (when I started). For example, I finally learned how to string together 10 kipping pull-ups! Woohoo!
And what’s your biggest struggle/what are you actively working on?
I am constantly working on my coordination with olympic lifts. I struggle with Cleans the most.
What are your thoughts about Paleo?
I love eating Paleo or even “Slow Carb” (a Tim Ferriss thing) when I know I need to get back into healthy eating habits. I always feel healthier, more energized, and even stronger when I eat that way, so I tend to do that most of the time. However, I also like cake…
What’s your go-to cheat food?
Nutella! Ice cream! Pizza! All of the above!
What do you like to do when you’re not at the box? What else keeps you active and moving?
I love playing Ultimate Frisbee and I’m a member of a league here in Milwaukee. Recently, I got my SCUBA certification and I hope to be doing some more diving in the future. I also love biking and hiking, and long walks through Shorewood with Kyle…
What do you have to say about your coach and fellow athletes at CrossFit Groundworks?
They couldn’t be better! The coaches are supportive, knowledgeable, and they never give up on the athletes. The fellow athletes make suffering through the WOD so much fun, and the Pedal Pub night was a blast! It was great to get to know people outside of the box and let loose a little too.
Any goals for 2015/2016?
Nothing specific. Just to stay the course and continue pushing myself each time I’m at the box!
